38-116 found (Beauiful)
#1

Found a really pristine 38-116 locally for a real good price.
Cabinet looks awesome and the chassis looks like new.
Guy has not played it at all, so he does not if it works or not.
Just a piece of eye candy for his living room.
Don't really need another of these, but the price is right.
Will have to sit next to the other 38-116 or the 37-116 I presently have.
Don't know if I want to re-cap it, or just re-sell for a few extra bucks.
These are a real challenge to work on as you all know.
Will be selling this one as soon as I figure out what it is worth.
In the condition this one is in, it ain't going cheap.
One owner and babied obviously.
Cabinet is awesome. No veneer issues or flaws other than a few very small chips on the edge of the front ledge under the knobs. Very easy touchup with a Q tip.
Chassis is amazing. very, very clean with no rust etc. Transformers all look like new with no tar, scratches etc.
The radio still works to boot. Brought it up on the variac and it plays strong with hardly any noticeable humm.
Does need the switches and bandswitch cleaned as it has not been used for years.
Speaker and clarifiers look like new as well.
Looks like it has the hold downs for the back cover too. No back though.
This is a pristine condition radio perfect for an electronic restoration.
If I can get a good price for it, I will sell it and park it in the Philco row.
Check it out guy's, won't find a nicer one than this.
P.S.
I have not taken the chassis out and looked underneath, but I am sure you will find it is clean and original.
