GE Model A-64
#23

(07-07-2016, 09:02 AM)vecher Wrote:  A couple of questions. What are the Transformer voltages supposed to be? There doesn't seem to be a any voltages on the schematic per-say..   My guess would be about 350-400 volts Ctr taped. A 6.3 volt for the filaments and 5 Volts for the 5Z4..

The cap connected to output is rated at 400 Volts so I assume the voltage is less than that..

Anyway  I will go today to see what they will take for it..

Thanks all..

The filter capacitors, at least the one on the cathode/filament of the rectifier tube would normally be about 450 VDC. The H.V winding, if the set used a 6F6/42 output tube, was probably a 350-0-350 type, or 700 VAC between the outside legs, rectified with low load on startup it can spike up to 400 VDC. Does this set have a 5Z4 in it? If it does then that indicates a 5 volt heater winding at least. Sometimes what people will do is use a power transformer intended for a set that used an #84 tube or a 6X5, such a transformer would not have a 5 volt winding on it, but worse then that the H.V winding usually puts out a lower voltage and a lower current. This was why I was wondering why the replacement transformer was noticeably smaller then the original would have been. What may be useful is to take that Stancor part number and look up the specs, someone may have posted a catalog by now, if not go to the alternative forum and ask (also ask about a parts chassis if you go and get this thing).

Arran
