I'm current working on an early 38-116 which is a lot like your radio. It hasn't been too bad except for a couple of capacitors that are buried in the RF sub-chassis. I also highly recommend ordering a schematic from Chuck Schwarks at the Philco Repair Bench because you get all the Philco service literature with it and a very high resolution 11x17 schematic. There is a real good tip on how to recap this radio without taking it completely apart from John (k9uwa). Plus a few photos that might help.
