I don't have any antenna hooked up.
Was working with the plate to which the rod is attached, without the rod.
Not really popping....just noisier than I'd like to.
I alined the IF. I did not put the IF to the converter grid via cap, I simply coupled into the antenna and then aligned.
I am not sure what the initial position of the dial pointer is: is it the black-white divide, is it something else? If I use the divide (the pointer horizontal) I can't get the oscillator to span at 1600. Just a smidge. Moving the poiner just a tad closer to the 1600 gets it.
