I don't think so either, in fact the grain looks a lot like Australian walnut, which I have never seen in anything other then veneer form. It looks like ribbon mahogany, except it's sort of a grey-brown colour when unfinished, lots of 1930s radio cabinets used it, Grunow, Brand Z, Rogers, Canadian Westinghouse, C.G.E, probably others.
