I guess it will depend on what the plunger is made of. If it is metal, there isn't much one could do.
If however it is plastic/fiber washer or leather attached to metal, then it could be remedied, though eventually prone to deterioration. For the money I paid I was willing to experiment.
Once in possession of it, I will let you know the behaviour.
