I have one more idea on this.

Is the platter spinning freely?   If it ISN'T, try pointing a heat gun at the bushing underneath to see if that loosens solidified lubricant  that could be holding the platter on.

. . .  although, frankly,  I don't think  this has been a problem with changers of this vintage.  It is mainly known to affect BSR changers from the 70s.
