First, I cleaned and polished them. I taped one end to protect the can from being marked by the jaws of the lathe chuck. After polishing one end, I turned it around and finished polishing.

To open, I decided to grind the crimp on the bottom rather than removing the top, It just seemed to be a safer bet.
