Yep.

A lot of us are using 630V film caps (Solen) in these for extended durability up to about 20uf. That is probably the most significant reason that I abandoned this technique. I cant shove a 10uf, 630V film cap through that hole.

On that note, 500V and 550V electrolytics have become much cheaper lately. They aren't any larger than the 450V ones. Operating an electrolytic well below its rating is one way to make them last longer.

If you are careful, a person can trim the crimp around the base so that the insulator can be removed and still have enough metal left to re-pinch around the base after installing the larger film caps.

In cases where the nickel plate is poor or scratched, I just cut them around the upper crimp and, after stuffing, solder the parts back together and replate the whole cap. - I realize this is not universally possible.
