Sorry to hear that your transformer is bad. I've heard that a 120/6.3v transformer can be used in a pinch. 120v side to the plate the 6.3v to the vc. I've got a lot of odds and ends here.
Great that it has a dynamic speaker. The field coil does a much better job at filtering the b+ than a 1K resistor. With the resistor scheme it takes a lot of capacitance to overcome the 60cy hum. Usually you can still hear hum with the volume down no so with a capacitor input with a choke/field coil in the circuit.
