Philco 60 hot resistor
#1

Hi I have a philco model 60 that has been recapped. Sometimes it wont play and the number 14 32000 ohm resistor on the wiring diagram gets very hot and no sound from the speaker. So I replaced the 1/2 watt  32000 ohm resistor with a 1 watt 32000 ohm resistor. The resistor still gets very hot and still no sound from the speaker. Sometimes the radio plays fine and the resistor does not get hot. while the radio was not playing and the resistor getting too hot I was looking for a bad solder joint and accidently pulled one of the wires that connects between the 32000 ohm resistor and the oscillator coil off the oscillator coil the radio started playing. So I replaced that wire and made sure it was soldered good on both ends. I turned the radio on and it did not play and the resistor got very hot. I then cut the new wire between the 32000 ohm resistor and the oscillator coil and the radio played and the resistor did not get hot. While the radio was playing I connected the wire back togather and the radio kept playing and got a little louder. I turned the radio off and on It played fine. About the third time I turned it off and back on the radio did not play and the resistor got very hot. I disconnected the same wire and the radio played. While it was playing I connected the wire together and the radio got a little louder and kept playing and the resistor did not get hot. Sometimes the radio will play fine when I turn it on and the resistor does not get hot. Other times when I turn it on it will not play and the resistor gets very hot until I disconnect the wire and it plays and gets a little louder and the resistor cools off. Sometimes the radio plays fine with the wire connected and plays for hours. Sometimes the radio will play fine with the wire connected for 20-30 minutes and go silent with the resistor getting too hot. I could leave the wire disconnected all the time and the radio works ok. According to the wiring diagram it is supposed to have that wire connected. Something is causing it to draw excessive current but not all the time. All the tubes tested good, and I even swapped them out so I know that the tubes are not the problem. Please help Thanks in advance. This is my first post so please forgive me If I did something wrong.
