116B dial drive disassembly surprise
#16

Yup that's the late model or cost reduction model. Pretty much the only differences are the spkr & cabinet. It was the last of the 16/116 tabletop set which started in '33. In 37 and 38 the 116 continued as high fidelity consoles. The 37-116X code 121 sported manual tuning and a shadowgraph. They didn't sale as well as the code 122 which has "telladial" (preset) tuning. 1939 the 116 usher in the mystery tuning. The receiver circuit was down sized and is a mere shadow of it's predecessors. It does have a high tube count but it's do to the control circuits for the mystery tuning. After '39 no more 116.

In 1937 there was a set that replaced the 116B. The 37-670B https://philcoradio.com/gallery2/1937a/#Model_37-670B And continued thru '38.

Here's a link to all of the 16/116B's  http://www.tuberadioland.com/philco16B-t..._main.html  Pretty sure you can click on the pics at the bottom to read abt them.

When my pals were reading comic books
I was down in the basement in my dad's
workshop. Perusing his Sam's Photofoacts
Vol 1-50 admiring the old set and trying to
figure out what all those squiggly meant.
Circa 1966
Now I think I've got!
