Well I am making progress with my first Philco. It took a bit to figure out the on/off/band switch and tone control neither of which have any markings on the cabinet.
As mentioned; the electrolytics, bakelite blocks, capacitor cans and tone control have all been refurbished and the audio and IF sections are working.
Using the transistor radio technique I realized that the oscillator was not working. Lots of reading on this site to include Philco Serviceman shows lots of oscillation trouble with the 71 and 91 using the type 36 tube. I know many of you will tell me what I found and that is an open tickler coil.
Thanks to all who post experiences and solutions I have a way forward and will rewind it. The postings by MrFixr55, Chas and skyscraper among others have me order some 34AWG wire and Kapton tape along with some beeswax to keep everything in place.
