Cap replacement is completed. (Excepting PSU filters for now). A cautious power up got the expected behaviour of the dim bulb, but atrocious FM reception and nothing at all on AM. I looked around the areas I had worked, and eventually found some components disturbed near the last IF can for AM.... I'd pushed them causing leads of these components to short out the IF transformer Fortunately no lasting damage done, and rearranging the cap and resistor positions brought everything back to life.
