Where is the crack? A cracked tube that has air inside will turn opaque once turned on.
Perhaps it is a scratch, nogt a crack.
Also...without looking at the circuitry....pull out that tube altogether, see if it still works. AVC is not necessarily an essential item to receve and sound out the signal.
