The 8G005 has a similar issue. If you can't get a 1LC6, you can use a 1LA6. They are both pentagrid convertors, but I presume that the 1LC6 has better high frequency performance.
A lot of shortwave is dead because BBC, Vatican Radio, etc., no longer beam toward the USA and Canada as they can be heard on the internet. Vatican Radio concentrates on Africa and other developing areas. I assume that BBC and others do the same.
