Hello Phorum, this is my first post here, I was fixing my first Philco (model 42-390) a day ago that I found a week ago, it was fine when I replaced the caps, when I switched the audio output tube, everything went wrong, the rectifier (Parallel 6X5GT of course) died in the most violently spectacular way (it even had cool flashing lights), the X-plate replacement almost did because it did the exact same thing (but it refused to die and it somehow works fine)
When I looked underneath the chassis and turned it on to find the source of the smoke and what I thought was smoke from the main components, this weird paper thing circled above was smoking when I plugged it in (it was shooting out smoke like a gas pipe from in between the paper thing), the only thing that connects to it is the negative end of the Electrolytics .
I need to know what it is, and why it's doing that, and if any component could be damaged.
I've looked at the schematics but the number is too low res for me to ID
Thanks
