Note that cleaning a potentiometer requires the correct chemical. Chemicals such as DeoxIT D5 are contact cleaners, designed for switch contacts. To clean and lubricate potentiometers use DeoxIT F5 Faderlube.
Chemicals not designed for electronic use, such as WD-40, should never be used on electronic parts, only on mechanical fasteners. Their ingredients may adversely affect electronic parts.
