I have and do use Weldwood contact cement. The same stuff I use to glue big pieces of veneer on cabinets. Works really well. It is pretty flammable so well ventilate and stay away from flames (water heater). Keep in mind the stuff is very sticky so once you apply it you can't separate the pieces.
