Hi Rod,
The relationship is a little bit unclassifiable. Mom in Law was a widow for many years. Ms. Fixr's dad died when Ms. Fixr was 10. Mom in Law knew the man who became her second husband for many years but did not become romantic with him until after our marriage. He was involved with the family, but was not a father figure. She married this man after all 3 of her children were married. So Ms. Fixr doesn't consider her mom's second husband her stepfather. This did not bother him. I had offered to go with him to see his father (who was 91 and blind at the time) but he turned me down. I wish I had met him.
Mom in law died at the age of 88 in 2014. Her husband was in mid stage Alzheimer's Syndrome at the time, so he lived with us until his death. He was happy living with us and not a lot of work, thank God. We were extrememl concerned because he was an alcoholic, but thank God, he forgot that he drank and did not mis it.
