C22 McIntosh preamp
#8

Many consider C22 the best classic tube pre-amp McIntosh made.

Actually I own two, but the first one I bought was the modern version. It s still a tube C22, still made in Binghamton, but the circuitry is updated. Tube-wise, they use 12AX7 and 12AT7 (output driver, less gain/better load capability). I bought it in 2016.
The one in works right now I bought in 2018, and this is an original one.

They had an intermediate one, made between 1996-1998, that was more modern, with CD position, balanced outputs etc, but looked same as the classic ones, Frank McIntosh Commemorative Edition.

The modern one has different panel side trims (straight, not peaked) and knobs that are flat-faced with black faces, whereas all originals are full metal, with cone-shaped faces.

I paid for the modern a bit more than what I paid for the original (I ordered the modern from a dealer in Red Bank). Nowadays the originals in good shape cost even more, probably went up 20-30% since 2018. At least judging by the eBay asking prices.

People who do not drink, do not smoke, do not eat red meat will one day feel really stupid lying there and dying from nothing.
