MrFixr55,
Well, for better or worse, I've extracted the 2nd IF transformer from the radio. Thankfully, it wasn't buried by everything else in that section. </sarcasm> It doesn't "look" bad - it does look old. Connecting the multimeter, I got right around 11 ohms at first which matches, BUT, the longer I leave it connected, the more it keeps creeping upward, just with the multimeter attached. It's currently sitting at 19.7 ohms after about 5 minutes. If it can drift like that with just what little current the multimeter is throwing at it, is it likely to be the case that this would be the culprit in the poor voltages reaching the plate of the 6K7?
I can post a picture if it's helpful, but not sure that it would be at this juncture. Obviously there's continuity, but that's also clearly not the problem.
19.8 ohms as I'm finishing writing this. It doesn't look particularly like a repairable part, so I'm guessing replacement or nothing?
Edit as of a few minutes later. Failing to see a downside, I heated up the solder on the lugs for the primary winding and reattached one of the wires to the rest of the radio after it fell out. Following that reattachment, I tested continuity again and at one point got a solid 10.5 ohms which after several minutes only ever barely touched 10.6. Reassembling the can was a joy but now have it back together and physically attached to the chassis. I checked continuity again and though I can't get 10.5 ohms, I still have continuity and in the neighborhood of 11.3 - 11.7 ohms depending on how good my connection on the wire is.
I'll post an update once I get everything soldered back together, especially if the magic smoke doesn't come out.
Best wishes,
Roy
