Neither, it's definitely not dead, but the performance is worse.  It is picking up signals, and if I don't really mess with it too much at first, it can reasonably clearly deliver the local station.  However, there is pronounced sound when tuning around stations, a "whine" that increases or decreases in pitch, usually depending on how closely we are tuned into the station.  This is really overpowering the signal right now.  Where that noise goes away, almost like a zero-beat, there's often a faint bass-y remnant of the radio signal.
