Hi Joe,
If you do decide to rewind your coil you can use a micrometer to measure the gauge and order the appropriate wire. You can find wire gauge specifcations on the internet. Just make sure you make a note which way the wire is wound on the form. An oscillator coil needs to be in phase with the incoming signal. It's not that hard to do really. Just a little tedious.
