Thanks! As a rule I prefer the original finish as well. However in this case, there were several areas of condiderable rust on the chassis. After removing the rust, the chassis looked blotchy and uneven. Seeing as this was THE cathedral I wanted for so long I wanted to the best job I could! So I decided to paint it. I used Krylon's satin nickel paint that I read Ron uses. It works very well and leaves finish that doesn't scream "I'm painted!!" .
The big part is the prep work, it took me an hour just to tape up everything!! I also sanded and then polished all the coil cans with Mother's metal polish. then several light coats of paint. I had to remove the tuning condensor anyway to replace the rubber mounts so that was diassembled and cleaned and buffed. Here are some before and after pics.
