The whole Antiques scene is pretty weird to me. In New England in areas noted for "Antiqueing" they cater to tourists with expensive small items. If you are looking for certian brands/styles of old furniture some of that stuff is priced out of site. The second hand store is the place for people want utilitarian objects. A good spot for radios as the lower margin shops have to move stuff.
