Those coils were intended to serve as wave traps for the IF signal. Generally, they may be replaced with regular capacitors with no ill effects. If it connects between B- and chassis ground, as these usually do, some collectors advocate reducing the value of the caps from 0.1 or 0.2 uF to 0.047 uF to reduce any residual AC on your set's chassis.
