Philco 40-145 Cabinet Repair
#3

Next up, wood filler. I really like this product called Timber Mate. It is imported from Australia. The guys who refinish floors use it. You can get it at Woodcraft stores. It is the only wood filler I've found that is invisible once finished. It's water based, so it cleans up easy and dries fast. It's ready to sand 20 minutes after you put it on. I smeared it over all the veneer I'd added, then sanded with 400 grit. The idea is only to fill the cracks around the veneer pieces, and the wood that I'd added. As you can see, I'd also stained the 1/4" wood strip. This was only so I could sand the filler and know when I was getting into the new wood. More stain would have to come after final sanding.

After the filler dried, I sanded it smooth with more 400 grit. I did not photograph this step.
