Hi Brian,

I'm definitely no authority, but can say from personal experience that the only Philco's I've owned with the SM were those having the early version, and I have yet to come across one of those grommets or masks you pictured. So I would have to assume my sets either never had them or that perhaps they had rotted away, but you would figure that even with deterioration, some remnant of decayed rubber would remain--sort of like when tuning cap mounts turn into gooey puddles of kibbled crud.
