Thanks guys! One last little task was to reproduce the missing chassis support board. This was made possible by another 38-7CS owner who kindly supplied a tracing and measurements.
I picked up a nice piece of 3/4" birch plywood and cut it out with a circular saw.

Now the tricky bit - I need to drill holes for the rubber chassis mounts at just the right location. I put a drop of red paint on the chassis rods and carefully set the board in place. Now I know exactly where to drill

I used 1" and 1/2" forstner bits to create a stepped hole. It's a perfect fit.

Finally I give it a few coats of Rustoluem camouflage brown paint.
