Jake, melting rubber insulation, forsooth! LOL! I have actually encountered that. Rubber insulated wire where the rubber was turning into sticky goo. This seems especially a problem with the blue wire, although it can happen to other colors too. I don't know why. Usually though it just gets hard and brittle and crumbles off the wire.
