I decided to work on a philco 89 Cathedral set. Someone had started it before me so A bunch of things were un hooked.
Then I realized that it was different code 123 from the schematic I had.
Mine had the 36 instead of the 77. It also had two installed but unused bakelite block in it.
They had never been soldered on.
I finally got everything back where it should go, I must rewire going to speaker. Then the smoke test.

Yes I did that was where I found the schematic closest to the radio. With exception of the unused bakelight blocks.

Philco was a company that was know for thrift, it doesn't seem likely that they would screw two Bakelite block capacitors under a chassis without hooking them up. More then likely whomever messed around with this radio in the past either disconnected them, or added the caps without hooking them up. What will tell the story would be the part numbers engraved in the sides.

what tells the story is there has never been a spec of solder on these lugs. So no one bypassed them. They are factory new.

Ron would know for sure, but is there a chance this chassis may have been used in other model Philco radios? That could explain the extra bakelites if this was being built for a different model, then pulled for an 89 instead. Just a thought, and my two cents worth. Take care, Gary

There were so many different versions of the Code 123 version of the 89 that some of these parts were added then removed. This was in between versions so it does not surprise me that there are some unused parts on the chasiis
