Philco model 49-1405 added parts not in riders schematic
#1

Hello Everyone,
Just finishing up on that Philco 49-1405 am/phono combo the problem I'm having first off all I removed couple resistors someone had in series
on the rect tube 50 ohms total .
I can't remember the life of me what was doing there it does not show up in the Riders Schematic Also a 330 ohm resistor connected between R100 160 ohm it connected C102B juntion and R202 a 220k ohm What would be the reason for these to resistors Does anyone have this same set or How about the original Philco Schematic .
The last question is I removed a .1 ufd cap I can't figure why it's there either it was placed between the juntion of the on/off control that also leaded to the phono motor .
And the R202 junction again .
Sincerely Rich
P.S. the only either thing is to build antenna for it since it original one had been torn out .
the either reason need to know if some has this same set or can find some one with a 1950 Am tube philco do they have the same antenna circuit design.

Ive repaired many, many Philco sets using Riders. Never had a prob with Riders getting a set working again. Sounds like your set has definately been previously hacked electronically. Situations like these sometimes takes abit of patience, carefully looking at the schematics over again, very closely. Usually, if Riders left something out of the schematic, it wasnt a "critical" part.
I did have to purchase a Philco condenser data book, to help me yrs ago on the bakelite blocks mysterys, as sometimes Riders was vague sometimes. Best of luck restoring you vintage Philco !

Hello Radiorich,
Bet you can find a replacement antenna to fit your needs at a local garage/sale or secondhand store than has a old busted plastic radio case from the 60s tube radio era.
Just about any good used loop from any type radio will work. Many times, old radios in bad shape cosmetically yield some good spare parts, and dont cost very much at all. I usually offer about $5 tops for parts type sets, and have purchased many for less over the yrs.
After looking at my Riders schematic, the orig missing antenna loop for your set was 3.6 ohms total. The outside loop connection of the antenna connects to the tuning condenser section that feeds grid of the 12BE6. The inside of the orig loop terminated to chassis gnd via a 5 mmf mica type cap in series with a 150k 1/4 watt resistor, and/or, could be used ( lifted) from chassis to connect a outdoor longwire antenna to the inside loop for long-distance reception.
Just bet a flea market cheap-set will yield you a good antenna you can retrofit. Take along a small ohmmeter and you can check any old used loop antenna you may find in a parts set to matchup to your needs, by adding or subtracting a few turns of antenna wire. Best of luck getting your vintage Philco restored! Icon_wink
