Hey Guy's
I have a Halson radio kinda a cross between a cathedral and a tombstone. I have no data and can find no model # the tube lineup is 80, 45, 27, 24A, 24A, 24A. The vol looks to have been replaced and is also toast my question is since I have no print is there a guess that can be made as to the value? The connections look to be left tab to power transformer and IF can, center to Chassis, and the right to a terminal strip through a resistor to one of the 24A tubes. Will post some pictures soon.

Strange thing: usually a chassis would rust on top but remain clean underneath. This is one is the opposite.

Those resistors look like you would use the body - end- dot... to read.
For instance the resistor looks like a brown one in lower left of picture with a black or blue end and a red dot in center.
Which would be 1000 ohms. if end is black, if blue 1600 ohms.

Don't think it's a superhet but a TRF set. I looked around and couldn't seem to find it in Rider's or in some of my old service books. Not too much of a big deal as the circuit is pretty basic.

Most of the resistors are solid color no end color or dots that's why I thought they were before the color code came about in the mid thirties and am hesitant to change them.. Had one that had an ink stamp with 2 megs on it that read almost 4 megs so I changed that one.

The top was really bad but I cleaned it up.

Nice cabinet, from panel appears to be stump walnut veneer. In any event it's a TRF set which is pretty typical of the early 1930s, three tuned RF amplifier stages, one detector, audio output, and rectifier, a trip through the Rider manuals will probably find the exact model. Halson was a North Eastern regional make more or less, they made everything from cheap AC/DC sets with curtain burner line cords to fancy 12 tube tombstones, and everything in between.

I do like the cabinet too. It is really unsophisticated in an intentional way, looks very rustic, goes well with an old country hotel room. Will look great when restored.

Older Halson's used the BED resistor labeling. I actually have a few that are like yours but through measuring the resistance and getting help from here on what the resistor attached to. I found them easier to replace than trying to figure out what the paint on the resistor body was telling me.
Again.... Why do you own this and not me?

As an example I have two resistors that are totally blue, no end color or dots they read 28k and 27k and two brown resistors one 310k and 236k
I looked at a couple of prints that had the same tube lineup and they had 10k volume pots right now I have a 30k in there would I be better of with a 10K?
