A $3.00 radio
#1

My $3.00 investment....

I bought this sorry Emerson 515 for $3.00 at our local swap meet. I soaked the cabinet, scrubbed the heck out of the cabinet, tooth brushed every nook and cranny, used oven cleaner to get off the most stubborn crud, gave it 4 coats of wax and sealed the crack it has on the face.
The chassis was a real pain and needed a lot of work but Terry helped me figure out the issue.

It is now fully restored and this thing plays amazing....
It was very surprising to get such good sound and so many stations with a short antenna...

If only it did not have that crack... Ugh!

Radio. $3.00
Knob. Had it
Caps. $3.50
Time. $1000.00 Icon_lol

Good looking little guy.

People who do not drink, do not smoke, do not eat red meat will one day feel really stupid lying there and dying from nothing.

Looks good Kirk!  I have a similar brown Emerson with the same dial that was given to me years ago.  The cabinet looks a little dull like yours did originally so hopefully mine will clean up too.  I like the dial on those sets.

Ya never know maybe find a parts set with a good glass, if it plays well, and took all that time maybe good to keep.

I really like that, almost enuff to buy it! Icon_smile

The glass is not broken. It is a crack in the corner of the cabinet by the glass.
It was hidden under the crud... The dial decal came up a bit over there and is crooked but I sealed the decal so it is not going to flake.
This is the one I offered to you last time.
If you decide you want it, Just cover new packing materials (I don't have any old), shipping, parts, and I'll take it off eBay. Ill let the $3.00 slide Icon_lol

Here is the crack

It looks pretty nice Kirk. But $180.00 with a crack and no back?

Hey go easy on him he's an addict!

When my pals were reading comic books
I was down in the basement in my dad's
workshop. Perusing his Sam's Photofoacts
Vol 1-50 admiring the old set and trying to
figure out what all those squiggly meant.
Circa 1966
Now I think I've got!

It's eBay,
Start high and go lower. The OBO feature is great for this.
Most of my stuff is high priced for collectors but it actually sells.
Ebay buyers have more money than collectors so why not..
I had a $130.00 offer already.

Some day, and that day may never come, I will call upon you to do a service for me. But until that day, accept this justice as a gift

I wouldn't let that pass. That's about $100 more than it's worth! Icon_crazy

Gosh, I have a Philco Bullet, SST transmitter a Monarch TRF all globe receiver and boxes of tubes. All free but no one wants to come! Of course if I advertised for a couple hundred there would be a lot of people.

Sammy, Dont make me "LOSE" all your carts, Icon_twisted
Flipping is buying something cheap and selling it right after without restoring it for 10X
I buy these to have fun restoring them, I cant keep them all so I sell them.
IT is flipping but still different.. Like you.. Icon_crazy

Eric,
It is worth what someone is willing to pay. You are willing to pay about $80.00 but this guy is willing to pay $130.00.
I offered it for cost on this Phorum but no one wanted it.

Thats how it works Jerry,
Offer it free and no one wants it. Put it for sale and get interest, lol...
