Hickok 600A tube tester
#1

All, When checking the voltages on this ( the AC filament one)

I noticed that all were over the 10% tolerance..

Lowest was about 7% highest was 19% Most were about 15%

This was setting the Line adjust to the mark..

I was using a Fluke 77 meter with the right shunt resistors to simulate the 1000 Volts /per Meter..

If I lower the voltage on say the 6.3 volt to read 6.3 volts then all look much better.. I will do that next to get % ..

Question is there a adjustment to bring the meter up to the line adjust mark with the voltage lower??

Here are a couple of pictures..

Do you have a tube in a socket? You need the tube to load the filament circuit or the voltage will read high.

I haven't checked the schematic but if the indicator needle points to the center always at the same line voltage set by the pot (and hence the filament voltage), then it shouldn't matter if the tube is in as when it's in, the voltage will drop and the needle reading goes down, and then when you adjust it back to the center again, the voltage should go back to the same value.

What I am saying is When I set the line control to the voltage it needs to be The Needle doesn't read at the Line test line. So is there a way to set the line test so the needle reads at the line test mark when reading the correct voltage?

Internal adjustment??

There is an internal adjustment and if you do a search online for the calibration instructions you should be good. What I am saying is set the tester up to test a tube, insert the tube and let it warm up. Then press the line button and adjust it to bring the meter to the center point and then check your voltage, it should be close. If its not then you will have to trouble shoot or at least run a calibration on the unit.

I'm not sure what you mean by "I set the line control to the voltage it needs to be" as as far as I can tell (I also have 600A) there is no scale on Line control pot.
If you simply cannot reach the middle, the two rectifier tubes often have their sockets oxydized which lowers Lne, happened to me twice, had to clean them. Sometimes simple yanking and reinserting the tubes does it.

Ok its not that I cannot reach the Line set position.. When I do the voltages are high by between 15 to 20 %.. Filament voltages..So I adjust the pot to get the right voltages..But now it reads on scale much lower.. Not at the Set mark..

Is there a internal adjustment to make the meter read at set mark..without readjusting the voltage..

This is the cal procedure. Read it.

As for the fil voltage, I think there is no separate adjustment: heres from the procedure.

FILAMENT VOLTAGE TEST:
5. No adjustment. This voltage is entirely dependent on the power transformer and the AC line setting. See also ADJUSTMENT CHART 1, LINE ADJUST above. Some voltages may be slightly higher due to the transformer having no load.

Ok Opened up the tester..

Does anyone have a layout of the bottom on what is what? Resistors Caps Pots ETC..

Here is a resistor board?? What are the values supposed to be and what parts are they??

Thanks.. But this still doesn't show me were the parts are on the Chassis..

All, I have a 6BZ6 tube that is not listed on my tube chart.. Anyone have the settings for this one?

Thanks
