46-1226 Mystery Cap
#1

I'm working on a 46-1226 Am/Lw/Sw/Phono console. Has anyone else done this beastie? There is a rather large cap that I can not determine its value for replacement. I've consulted the Schematic in the Rider's on Nostalgia Air without much luck.

It's a very large yellow tubular cap with wax coating that's located about dead-center in the middle of the bottom of the chassis. The ends are attached to a large terminal strip and one end goes to one of the electrolytic caps and the other to one of terminals on the volume control pot.

I accidentally scratched off the value while trying to cut through the filthy wax. I thought it said something like 25 - but don't recall and there's nothing on the schematic that makes sense.

Can anyone help? I could take a photo of the cap in location if it would help.

Thanks,
James

What C number is it on the riders underside picture?

Do you have the schematic for this radio? The service information will tell you what capacitor it is. Philco service literature for their 1946 models are very detailed.

If you don't have it, you need to get hold of Chuck and buy it from him - you won't be disappointed.

You can get half-round moulding in various diameters at any home improvement store. That way the flat edge is uniform. ...GarySP — 12:03 AM
