Hello,
My Philco 37-61 came to me without the AC/Tone switch. It basically was wired to come on when plugged in. I think I have found a substitute switch but need help in how to wire it up. The AC part is obvious, but the tone part is clear as mud to me. Does someone have a nice hires picture of the original switch in place or a sketch of how it's wired up? Also, what is the general opinion of my replacement switch...doable? Good substitution for lack of the original?

Remember, the tone control circuit is separate from the AC switching circuit, even though both functions are handled by the same switch. They are electrically insulated from one another.

Okay, very good. How many positions does this replacement switch have? Do you have the specifications of this switch, and if so, can you show these here, please? This will help a great deal in determining if it will work. It appears that it will, but the specifications will tell for certain.

That looks like it would be a very good substitute. Now we have to find out how those lugs connect in the switch?
Hmmm...maybe I'll order a few and check them out. Those would make good substitutes in 1937 Philcos that only have a "high" and "low" tone position. They might even substitute for Philco 19 and 89 off-on-band switches.

Sorry, my switches arrived two days ago but I've been very busy with my custom-built 97 project which is now complete.
Here is a back view of the switch, showing the contacts and description of each:

When the switch is in the "off" or first (1) position, nothing is making any contact. When turned clockwise to the second position, the AC switch makes contact, and the two wipers connect to each of the terminals labeled "2." Finally, when the switch is rotated one more position to the right to the third position, the two wipers now connect to each of the terminals labeled "3." The AC switch remains "on" in positions 2 and 3.
For use as a tone control in Philco models such as the 37-61, only one of the wiper terminals is used, along with the corresponding "2" and "3" contacts. In other words, use the "2" and "3" contacts that are next to the wiper terminal being used. The wiper is connected to ground, nothing to terminal 2, and the proper ends of condensers (40) and (41) are both connected to terminal 3.
This switch should also make an excellent replacement for the off-on-band switch in models 19 and 89 as well as some versions of models 14 and 91.
Note: These switches are supplied without mounting nuts. (At least, my five switches do not have any mounting nuts with them.) However, proper nuts and lockwashers for these should not be difficult to find.
