Control extension shafts.
#1

Not sure if this is the right forum, but here it goes..

Sometimes we have no choice but to replace a volume/power switch or other control on these old radios. Ive noticed the newer replacements dont have the same shaft length as the originals they replace..

Ones ive seen (shaft extenders) on the bay are way too long , or not the correct diameter..

Is there a source im missing out on, or is there a machinist in the house (Steve Davis?) that could turn out a few slide on shaft extenders with a setscrew that could be used on 1/4 inch shafts to compensate for the loss?

In my current situation, my replacement control is  1 3/8" length, where the original was at least 2"

Just wondering if theres a fix  in a situation as mine?

Thanks..

Radio Daze sells shaft couplers. With one of these and a piece of .25 in. aluminum rod you can make any length.

If you can find a NIB replacement - -

Most generic replacement pots came with long shafts. You were expected to cut them to length.

Didnt see the couplers on RD, just alot of dials kept popping up in the search.. Looks like im in a holding pattern on this project until i come up with something... Unless someone has a long shafted 500k potentiometer with on/off switch... Icon_problem

The one from parts express looks exactly like the one i just purchased, do those measurements translate to a 1 3/8" long shaft?

actually, upon reading the details, I think you're right. The picture is deceiving.

Since Radio Daze didn't have the couplers, I found another source:
