I made bubbles!
#1

Learning as I go on my first project.

I glued the side of this rescued 46-1209 where the veneer had separated.  A few days later, the bubble you see in the photo appeared.  I read online that I can either make a thin slit and reapply glue with a syringe, or use an iron and damp cloth.  Any recommendations for this first-timer?

Also visible in the photo is where the black rubber trim/strip broke off.  What is a good replacement?  And does the top "ridge" also need a piece?  There is nothing there (or on the other side) currently -- not sure if it's supposed to be like that or if the piece is missing completely.

Thank you!

Emerson used a plastic strip as a trim in a lot of their radios and I got frustrated searching for a replacement. I filled in the groove with wood putty then sanded, masked and dark stain. Or you can skip the mask by adding the stain to the putty. Might even use black paint.

Make one or two small slits with a razor knife In the direction of the grain - not across. I will make those in the grain itself. These will let the air out when you use a hot iron to stick the veneer down. Work from the edges toward your slit(s). Do not overheat. Success will depend on whether or not you used enough glue on the original application.
