Philco model 83 filter condenser block question
#1

I am working on a model 83 and am aware that it is similar to a model 87. When I got the can removed from this chassis there are only 8 connection points instead of 10 like in the model 87.   Does anyone have a diagram of where the caps attach in the 8 connection model 83?

Hi and welcome,

Does your set have the LOC connection next to the ant and gnd posts? If not that's why your missing the terminals. It doesn't have the .015 condenser inside the condenser block connected to the line and power transformer back to the LOC post. Don't bother to hook one up it's a nuisance.

Or find the p# on the block and look it up https://philcoradio.com/library/index.ph...ondensers/

It has the LOC. I can’t find a part number on the can. All the schematics I have found are for the model 87 Ko

After reviewing your issue a bit more I think you may have a filter block from a model 86 incorporated in your set.

Here's a link to the 83/87 from Nostalgia Air http://www.nostalgiaair.org/resources/652/M0029652.htm
And the Philco 511
http://www.nostalgiaair.org/resources/735/M0013735.htm

This is very similar to the 514 (511) I restored some time ago. The ps cap block is an eight connector unit and contains a cap for the LOC terminal. It might be the same part. The two radios were built about the same time.

The 86 looks to have terminal 6 as the ground and my radio’s ground is also what could be called terminal 6 depending on how you count.  I haven’t melted the tar yet.  Will the caps in the can have part numbers on them individually?  If so, I can hopefully confirm the values.

Thanks for the help.

If the look at the under the chassis picture it has 8.
