[split] 42-345
#1

I recently bought a Philo 42-345.  The first time it was turned on it had the typical hum to it.  I replaced all of the caps, cleaned it up a bit, checked the tubes, added a new power cord, and it came right up without the hum.  I was using a variac when bringing it up.  It played very well on all three bands for about an hour.  I was switching between the bands and suddenly lost all output, except for static from the speaker.  The lights on the dial continue to work.  I've checked the tubes, substituted replacements for those that I have just in case my tube tester is not working right.  I've checked the capacitors and most of the resistors. Tonight when I was looking over the radio, I noticed that the Broadcast oscillator had a peeling on the backside of it.  My question is, could this be the source of the problem or should I keep looking?  Would appreciate suggestions.

Welcome the Phorum!

I've split this from the other 42-345 thread. It's easier to keep straight what set we're talking about if you start a new thread for new questions about a different set.

Check all sections of your oscillator coil. Then work your way out from it checking every part of the oscillator section. Sounds like you problem is there.

The last thing you were doing when the set went silent was "switching bands ." There might be a problem with the band switch contacts. I noticed the 3 oscillator coils are selected by the band switch to connect to a the tuning condenser oscillator section.

Renovated Radios do carry what you need. As for the voltage, a wire should be at least 300V-rated.morzh — 11:13 PM
