Model 38-7 lamp replacement
#1

Is there any way to replace the dial lamp on a Model 38-7 without disassembling the tuner dial assembly?

It looks like the lamp has to be removed and reinserted from inside the tuner dial.

Any suggestions?

Thank you,

Don

I suspect that the lamp holder snaps into the dial housing. If you push on the side of the lamp holder or pry between the dial housing and lamp housing. Push or pry gently. It should pop out if it's mounted in that fashion.

Thanks, Terry. I'll give that a try.

Terry,

I was not able to remove the lamp socket. As unlikely as it seems, the socket appears to be an integral part of dial housing; not a separate piece. Any other ideas?

I am reluctant to try disassembly of the dial housing without assembly details and/or instructions. Service Bulletin #282 may have what I need but it is missing from the list of downloadable docs. Any idea where I might get a copy of this bulletin?

Thank you,

Don

Chuck Schwark's PhilcoRepairBench.com has some information on the tuning dial that might be helpful.

and Chuck has a link on that page to at least a portion of the 282 bulletin.

Hi Don

I when down to the heap and found a conecentric dial chassis. Replacing the lamp is easy...

Step1 Remove bezel by pushing it in turning it. It turns just a little.
#2 Remove dial pointer by pulling up. It has a flat on it so don't turn it.
#3 Remove wire ring that holds dials in place.
#4 Remove dial.
#5 Remove lamp.

Thank you Bob and Terry.

Terry, your tips are just what I need to get it apart w/o destruction.
