Slanted/skewed picture on Predicta Holiday
#1

Hi!

I just recently came into possession of a Philco Predicta Holiday that seems to mostly work. After adjusting the horizontal and vertical knobs, I’m getting a picture after running a Blu-Ray player via composite to an RF modulator, coaxial cable and transformer to the VHF inputs. However, the image is slanted/skewed. Is this a common issue?

Thanks for any advice or fix suggestions!

Hi C Storm,

This is called "tearing" and may be caused by an issue with either the sync separator or because the signal is too strong. Try to "attenuate" the signal from the modulator. Turn the fine tuner from lock to lock. Does the picture stop tearing when it gets "snowy? In addition, test the DVD / Modulator "rig" with another analog TV. If tearing occurs on the other TV, then the issue is with your modulator. If the modulator is good, then troubleshoot the sync circuit. Good luck.

What effect does the local/distance switch setting have? Have you adjusted the coarse horizontal frequency control? It is access by pullin the Hor Sync knob off and inserting a small flat bladed screw driving into the hollow shaft.
