Any restorers in New England? Need help with 48-1270
#1

I have my grandparents' Philco 48-1270 phono / radio that is NEEDFUL to say the least. The turntable is missing (grandpa used it for a roundhouse on his train set decades ago) and I have never seen it actually work. I was hoping to "restore" the electronics myself, but I've never done a radio, period. I know everyone talks about capacitor replacement, etc, but where do I begin in the cleaning and repairing process? Anyone in the Southeastern Massachusetts area willing to help? I have a 1935 Wurlitzer jukebox in which I had the amp redone years ago, but the gentleman has "disappeared". I would like to find someone to diagnose a crackling I sometimes get in that as well.

Thanks, Chris the clock man.

Anyone want to offer advice on how to start the redo of this? I really want to get it going, but I need a ton of advice.

Hi and welcome.

Repairing an old radio is not something you can learn to do overnight. There are safety concerns to keep in mind. You might begin by reading the following page:

http://www.antiqueradio.org/howfix.htm

Also, contact the New England Antique Radio Club:

Feel free to post any questions you have here. Good luck...and be safe.

No, it's not a problem, just during certain condition it could show up. Yes, an internal tube short could do that too. ...morzh — 09:13 AM
