Dial - Philco 71
#1

Hello.
I got a model 71 that needs some repairs.
The plastic on the dial is mostly wasted. I've searched for a template in the forum, but I can't find your original one.
I thought about drawing one, but I don't know what the name of the original font is for the numbering.
Does anyone know its denomination?.
Thank you.

Radio Daze stocks a reproduction dial:

Can anyone recommend a source for a dial cord for the Philco 71 ? Any specifications you may have would be appreciated.

Got a pic of the drive assembly? A lot of the early sets they used a pinch wheel to drive the inside of the dial hub. The tuning  shaft and it's corresponding holes wear out and make the dial slip or not move at all. On these there is no cord.

When my pals were reading comic books
I was down in the basement in my dad's
workshop. Perusing his Sam's Photofoacts
Vol 1-50 admiring the old set and trying to
figure out what all those squiggly meant.

Now I think I've got!

Terry, the 71 and the 91 both had dial cords rather than the pinch wheel.

I have attached three (3) photos of another Code 121 with the dial cord attached. I measured the dial cord diameter with a caliper and it looks to be 0.067 inches (1.7 mm) .
diameter.
Some Philco links I found regarding :

Oh that drive... I used 1.7mm Kevlar fishing line. Rated @ 400lbs, braided, and abrasion resistant. Amazon has it @ $19 for 30'. Used it on my 201X works fine.

Thank you Terry. Sounds like anything like Kevlar should last another 80 years. I will give this a try.
Will I need to remove the tuner to replace the belt or just remove the dial face and drive assembly ?

To be honest I don't remember it's been a couple of yrs ago when I fixed up the 201X
