changer from 49-1278 cartridge
#1

Hi:  Will try and attach images of this 33 and 78 changer with two arms and a mercury switch.  The 78 cartridge is dead but customer does not care about that.  The LP one is quite weak but how to get it out?  Looks like arm must be removed to turn it over?  Cartridge is narrow making refit of later stereo one a challenge.  What have people used here?  302 8 1378 is only number on the underside of the deck.  Motor is turning but some pieces have broken off and disintegrated.  The auto trip does not work on 78 and I don't see how it ever worked on 33.  The little flat belt for 33 is stretched.  78 speed is right on so will have to find that belt somewhere.  Thank you.

Welcome to the Phorum, thomashjr! It appears that you have a record-cutting phonograph. We have limited information in our Philco Radio Library, service info, 1941 yearbook for the HR-1. This may help you out. Take care and BE HEALTHY! Gary

Gary I have seen cutter turntables and this is not one. The heavier arm is for 78 play only and the lighter one is for 33 only. The speed change switch also toggles the output to the amp radio chassis which I already fixed for her. We are certain this is original to the 1949 cabinet that also includes a 12" TV plus AM FM radio. Thank you.

You are right, so I looked a little deeper. The 1948-49 Yearbook in the Philco Radio Library has information on Record Changers M-9C and M-12C. Both models are two tone arm phonographs. Perhaps this will help. Take care and BE HEALTHY! Gary

Gary thank you for showing me to the library. What a storehouse of information! I have a cathedral jr radio plus a predicta barber pole and red metal princess predicta all working. I just acquired another barber pole and a holiday that I need to examine. For now, I am certain this is a M-9C changer. On ebay are tetrad narrow profile ceramic cartridges which I believe I can get in to the LP arm. --Tom

You could try thevoiceofmusic.com and see if they have your cartridge.
