38-10T chassis Restoration begins
#61

My dad's manager took the NRI course many years ago and gave me his course booklets. One of the course lessons was on restoring radios that were involved in a disaster such as a flood. They advocated hosing the radio chassis out if mud-soaked. the theory was that if it was flooded, more water would not hurt it more than already hurt. They even had plans for an "oven" to dry the radio (essentially a box with a light bulb (I do not remember the wattage and can't find the course, but it may be on the "net"). So "hosing down" a piece of electronic equipment is not so outlandish, as long as it is thoroughly dry before powering it up. I surely wouldn't do this to a speaker, microphone, hard drive, etc., but for others, especially circuit boards that got hosed by a salty fluid, etc., it is worth a shot.

Hello Mr Fixr,
years ago I had to wash two vcrs one was used by the school disctrict and the other was a family who had just bought really nice HiFi vcr .

The one from the school had paint poured into it from a bratty student and the other had popcicle melted through the top vents .

Sincerely Richard
