Winter Project Sets
#1

Hi everyone. First time posting here, and I'm back in the hobby for the first time since 1988! Here are two sets I'll be working on over the winter, a 1957 Golden D swivel model and a 1960 Bristol blond finish set. I'll post progress as it happens.

Welcome to the Phorum, MuzzcoVW! Those are two great looking sets! Looking forward to your restoration threads this Winter! Take care and BE HEALTHY! Gary

Thanks Gary! And tomorrow I'll edit out part of my post about my wanted items... I didn't see the rule before I posted.  Have a great evening.

You have a couple of very nice looking sets there! Lot's of knowledge here about restoring and getting those sets running.

TV MAN thanks. I look forward to seeing the progress on your Predicta as well. My flyback in the blond set (10L30 chassis) is in the same condition. I started flaking off the outer coating and it all basically fell off. When I brought it up on variac initially I had a small amount of arcing after a couple minutes so I shut it down right away. I don't see any carbon tracking so I believe I'll start with some corona dope and see what happens. I'm debating doing this and testing before I recap, I haven't decided on that yet.

I finally have a chance to dive into the chassis on the Bristols 10L31 chassis. Ended up removing the coating from the flyback so I can re coat, it basically fell off when touched. The more I examine the board, I don't think this was a high hour set. Parts from TV Restorer Guy Crist and Mouser are here so I pulled the board a couple days back. I still need to clean it, but will wait until I remove the couplates and capacitors. I plan on replacing most resistors as well while it's out. Stay Tuned

Lovely sets. I find it amusing how much scorn is heaped on the Predicta line when Philco has been using the same or similar circuit board & wirewrap technique for several years already in many models.

As soon as I get my Emerson running, I'll toss mine on the bench and start the overhaul. Maybe I'll get it done before spring :-]
BTW, Bob Anderson has a lot of good videos covering these on YouTube. Shango066 is another character to watch. A little crude, but a good way to learn some troubleshooting techniques.

TV MAN thanks. I've probably logged a hundred hours studying Bob's videos... SUPER helpful primer for someone who hasn't restored anything since say 1990. Shango also, and personally I appreciate a little crude, no nonsense style. It's lacking in areas...
