What should I offer?
#1

I have an opportunity to acquire this radio-phono, but the owner wants me to make an offer. Tried searching images, but no luck. I really don't "need" it (do any of us really need more radios?), but it looks to be in great cosmetic shape, and I have the "sickness". Any thoughts on a fair offer. Thanks.

I am not sure what radio it is, but seems like a 1950 AM/FM set. Or from 1948, possibly one similar to 48-1264.

In any case, it is a console, and those are hard to get rid of, so, out of the goodness of my heart I'd offer $50.
I am sure during a swapmeet that would go for even less.
But less than $50 could be uncomfortable to offer, and $50 is not much money, so, were I inclined to get this specific one, I'd go for $50.

PS. For whatever reason you duplicated this thread, so I deleted the other one.

I think you have a chance at purchasing a 48-1286, based on the cabinet hardware. Only 8700 were produced, so it is a rarer model. It is also in relatively good condition. That being said it is a console and they aren't as popular due to space constraints. $50.00 is a good place to start with. Let us know what you do. Take care and BE HEALTHY! Gary

The consensus is $50, which is what I was thinking. I've sworn off repairing phonos , but what's one more? Thanks for removing the duplicate posting, morzh, I edited the text and apparently things didn't go as planned. I'll make the offer and see what happens. Thanks all for your replies.

I swore one console was enough, but now I see a nice looking 47-1227 down in Muskogee!  Icon_lol I am trying to resist the temptation!

The only ones I am getting from the 1940-s, if ever, are the 1948 Sheraton or Hepplewhite. Not interested in the rest.

I am curious, as I have seen those names before. Where did the nicknames of Sheraton and Hepplewhite come from?
